Call Upon The Lord

I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies. The cords of death encompassed me; the torrents of destruction assailed me; the cords of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.

Psalm 18:1–6 ESV

You have to call upon the Lord.

Nowhere in this tumultuous world is safe, nowhere except with the Lord. To stand anywhere else is like standing in a desert of quicksand that is steadily dragging you down into the deepest, darkest pit, the wasteland where each shake and twist pulling you further down into the dirty abyss, into the living graveyard underneath your feet, thirsting for your soul, craving to eat you whole. It might not consume you immediately, but it will get you eventually. The entire world is fallen, and it leads only further down.

So don’t just stand there. Don’t let this wretched world devour you. Call upon the only savior of the world. It doesn’t matter who you are, black or white, man or woman, Jew or Gentile. Regardless of who you are, when you call upon the Lord Jesus Christ, he will come to save you. Although you yourself wandered out into this dreadful desert, he will save you from it, from your blunder, from your sin.

Grab hold of his hand and let him lead you to safety. Come to the Rock of Eternity, the Eternal Fortress, the only island in the dead ocean of quicksand. There you will be safe. Even when this whole world is crumbling around you, it can never take you down with it. The entire fallen world is nothing compared to eternity.

Call upon him every day, and behold, he is there, always.
